Hall Road Traffic Action Group

Why?

HRTAG has been set up by a group of residents in order to bring about proper speed enforcement on Hall Road NR1.

The current speed limit of 20mph is being ignored by the majority of drivers on Hall road.

We would like to see suitable enforcement of 20mph to ensure greater safety for road users, pedestrians, cyclists and school children.  Currently, the zebra crossings are often ignored or not “seen” by speeding drivers and this makes crossing the road precarious and unsafe.

Traffic calming measures have been implemented on similar roads around Norwich and these help to reduce excessive speeding and improve the environment due to less emissions and less noise.

We would like to see this here.

So far

The councillors from Lakenham and Town Close wards have jointly purchased a speed camera that collects data showing both the speeds and volume of passing traffic.  We were trained along with other local residents to install and collect the data from this camera.  It has been installed on Hall road since February 2022 and is going to move around the two wards to collect data in trouble spots.

The data that we have collated and analysed is stark.  Some 70% of drivers exceed 20mph, and most of them behave as if Hall Road is 30mph.

We hope

HRTAG would like Hall Road to be safer, greener and calmer for all.  We are working with our local councillors to put a strong case forward to County Council that Hall Road and it’s residents demand enforcement of the speed limit.  We have clear evidence that the speed limit is largely ignored and that our safety and the quality of environment is therefore hugely compromised in this neighbourhood.  We would like to find a simple and effective solution to this problem.
